SML substances
The substances we can test for you
615 substances with a specific migration limit are covered by our laboratory. Search by name, CAS, FCM or Ref number – the limit is right there in the list.

Find a substance
Type a name, a CAS, FCM or Ref number – the list filters as you type. The alphabetical index helps when you do not have a search term. Both the English and the German name are searched.

Ask about an analysisWhat an SML value means
The specific migration limit (SML) states how much of a single substance may at most migrate from the material into the food. The values are laid down in the Union list of Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 and are given in milligrams per kilogram of food.
Where the list above shows no SML, that does not mean “unlimited”: the overall migration limit still applies, as does the general requirement that no harmful amounts may migrate. We are happy to discuss which test makes sense in your case.
FCM and Ref number
Both numbers identify the same substance in different sets of rules: the FCM substance number comes from the Union list of Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, the Ref number from the earlier directives. Many substances carry only one of them – which is why some entries show a dash.

The directory grows with our customers’ requests. Tell us which substance you need tested – we will look into whether and how it can be determined.
