Beyond the Numbers: Finding Purpose in the Packaging Lab – We’re Hiring in Oldenburg

Every day, we handle dozens of food packaging items – naturally expecting them to be tight, preserve freshness, release no undesirable substances, and ultimately be as recyclable as possible. Yet behind this matter-of-course reliability lies precise analytics, material expertise, and people who take a closer look.

At Innoform Testservice in Oldenburg, we work precisely at this interface between material science, consumer protection, and industrial practice. Our guiding principle – “We help package food safely” – is not an advertising slogan, but our daily laboratory reality. And as the challenges surrounding new mono-materials, paper laminates, recyclates, and stricter EU regulations continue to grow, we are currently looking to reinforce two key areas of our testing laboratory accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:

Mechanical material testing on films at Innoform Testservice
Material testing in practice: How do films and papers behave under real mechanical stress?
FT-IR microscopy and spectroscopy in the Innoform testing laboratory
A detailed look: With FT-IR and Raman microscopy as well as GC-MS, we clarify layer structures and chemical questions.

More than measured values: Understanding what happens inside the material

In many laboratories, the job ends with printing out a measurement curve. At Innoform, the real excitement often just begins there. When a packaging manufacturer develops a new recyclable film concept, a food packer faces an unexplained leak, or a brand owner needs to know whether packaging reliably complies with all food contact regulations, they don’t need mere columns of numbers – they need reliable answers.

Since 1998, our team of around 15 employees in Oldenburg has combined sound laboratory analytics with a direct connection to materials, processing, and packaging practice. Those who work with us accompany a test order from the initial question through measurement to technical evaluation – in direct exchange with colleagues and clients.

Two perspectives – one common goal

1. Packaging and material testing: When physics meets practice

Why does a heat seal open up during transport? How much does humidity affect the barrier of a paper laminate? And does a thinner film withstand the same stresses on the packaging machine as the previous material?

As a Laboratory Technician (m/f/d) for Packaging and Material Testing, you examine plastic films, paper, and laminated materials using physical-technological and analytical test methods – from tensile, tear, and seal testing to barrier and leak testing. Following structured onboarding, you will take on your own testing orders, evaluate results in the application context, and actively contribute to the quality assurance of our accredited laboratory.

Practical simulation in the lab: Heat seal strength and mechanical tests determine whether packaging provides reliable protection in everyday use.

2. Instrumental analytics & food contact: Detective work on a molecular level

Which substances can migrate from packaging into food? What does a tiny inclusion in a high-barrier film consist of? And how can complex mixtures of substances such as NIAS (Non-Intentionally Added Substances) be reliably identified and evaluated?

As a Chemist / Food Chemist / Polymer Chemist (m/f/d), you will use state-of-the-art instrumental analytics such as GC-MS, GC-FID, molecular spectroscopy (FT-IR and Raman) as well as DSC to chemically analyze materials intended for food contact. You will translate analytical spectra and chromatograms into clear reports and expert opinions (in German and English) and advise our clients worldwide on challenging regulatory and analytical questions.

Why Innoform? Short communication lines, modern technology, and true teamwork

Good analytics happen where technical expertise, modern equipment, and a positive working atmosphere come together. As an independent institute, we offer a work environment where every individual makes a tangible difference:

  • Meaningful tasks with a clear purpose: Your work directly ensures that food is packaged safely, customer complaints are clarified, and more sustainable packaging solutions become ready for practical use.
  • Structured onboarding & mentoring: No one is thrown into the deep end – experienced colleagues provide comprehensive support during your training on methods and equipment.
  • Modern laboratory equipment: From tensile and permeation test rigs (OTR/WVTR) to GC-MS/GC-FID, as well as FT-IR and Raman microscopy.
  • Flat hierarchies & flexibility: Short decision-making paths, flexible working hours, continuous professional development, and room for your own ideas.

“Here, you don’t just generate anonymous measurement data on an assembly line. You understand the material, know the customer’s question, and see directly what difference your own test result makes in practice.”

Curious? Let’s get to know each other

Whether you come from practical material and laboratory testing or want to combine your degree in chemistry with a passion for instrumental analytics: On our career page, you will find all details about both job profiles as well as insights into our laboratory in Oldenburg.

By the way: For an initial contact, we don’t need an elaborate cover letter. A quick phone call to Klaus Behringer (+49 441 94986-10) or an email with your CV to klaus.behringer@innoform.de is completely sufficient.
