Water Vapour Transmission Rate (WVTR) of moulded parts, packages, pouches, bottles, etc. (only suitable for barrier materials, see also "i")

The measurement is carried out by using the the water vapor specific hydrolysis method, which allows to detect even the lowest permeabilities precisely and reproducibly. Besides the standard parameters offered, measurements can be carried out under a wide variety of temperature and humidity conditions. Attention: This method is only suitable for packs with a good water vapour barrier. Materials with high permeation coefficients, e.g. PA, thermoplastic starch or PLA, can not be measured due to excessive permeation.

Test Method Group: permeation

Norms:
  • DIN EN ISO 15106-2 (2005-5) Plastics; Film and sheeting - Determination of water vapour transmission rate - Part 2: Infrared detection sensor method
  • DIN EN ISO 12572 (2025-03) Hygrothermal performance of building materials and products – Determination of water vapour transmission properties – Cup method
  • DIN EN ISO 15106-3 (2005-05) Plastics – Film and sheeting Determination of water vapour transmission rate – Part 3: Electrolytic detection sensor method
  • ASTM F 1249 (2025) Standard Test Method for Water Vapor Transmission Rate Through Plastic Film and Sheeting Using a Modulated Infrared Sensor

Required Sample Amount: Minimum 2 units

Standard Tests

WVTR package standard 23°C/ 85% rel.humidity

Specific Norm: DIN EN ISO 15106-3

Standard test program "Europe" to determine the water vapour permeation of packages. If you need other test conditions, please let us know.

WVTR package standard 38°C/ 90% rel.humidity

Specific Norm: DIN EN ISO 15106-3

Special test program "tropical climate/ asia/ USA" for determination of the water vapour permeation of packages. If you need other test conditions, please let us know.
