Density of plastic materials

DIN EN ISO 1183-1, of mono films, granules, moulded articles etc. made of polyolefins, PVC, or Polyamide. PET samples must have a minimum thickness of 0.3 mm, thin PET films cannot be tested with this method.

Test Method Group: Material analysis

Norms:
  • DIN EN ISO 1183-1 (2019-09) Plastics – Methods for determining the density of non-cellular plastics – Part 1: Immersion method, liquid pycnometer method and titration method

Required Sample Amount: 10 g material, in the case of laminated films, the mixed density is determined.

Standard Tests

Density by immersion method

Specific Norm: DIN EN ISO 1183-1

This method is intended for granules, monofilms and other meltable monomaterials. The method is usually not suitable for determining the mixed density of plastic films or other multilayer materials.

Density by immersion method

Specific Norm: DIN EN ISO 1183-1

This method is intended for determining the density of plastic films, including multilayer and other bubble-free molded or extruded objects.
